D088: A Hidden Gem in the Consent Calendar

One of the most important concerns in our life together as Church is the issue of language. We are a church of many tongues, and the way we use language has the power to create a sense of belonging or betrayal. The connection we experience when we are understood and heard in the language of our hearts is profound. Hidden in the consent calendar is a gem that urges the church to take a step in the right direction for those who long to learn about the church and deepen their relationship with scripture in the language of their heart.

Forward Movement has been in existence since 1935, providing resources like devotions, Bible studies, formation courses, and other resources to equip and support people in their walk with Jesus Christ. Resources such as Day by Day, Transforming Questions, Walk in Love, and Inwardly Digest have become excellent touchstones for formation and continuing discipleship. This grant would also allow them to improve the Day by Day app with additional features for discipleship and prayer.

Resolution D088 requests Forward Movement to develop digital resources for evangelism and discipleship; and it allocates $150,000 to develop digital resources for evangelism and discipleship in English and all other languages possible, not simply a translation, but in culturally relevant terms appropriate for the population (BINGO!) which shall be provided to the church free of charge.

While this resolution sits hidden in the consent calendar, my hope is that both Houses support this resolution to continue our call to evangelize and share the good news of Jesus, the source and true example of love and the one who speaks the language of our hearts.
